Final Fantasy Seven Play Arts Vol 1: Deject Strife

Im Cloud. SOLDIER. First Class. Unfortunately that line wont impress any girls in real life.

"I'thousand Cloud. SOLDIER. Start Class." Unfortunately that line won't print whatsoever girls in real life.

Ahh, Final Fantasy seven. Past the time nosotros got our PS Ones in highschool, Squall Leonhart was trotting around in his CG FMV-laden love story. In my course, everyone was a raving lunatic for FF8. While I admit I like it (and it'south the first Last Fantasy game I ever played), I still hold on to the belief that Deject Strife is cooler.

And besides, during that time, activeness-figure collecting is not that mainstream of a hobby nonetheless here in the Philippines, and Concluding Fantasy merchandise were not easy to find (Save for that nigh static line of FF8 figures). I remember gazing longingly at the back folio of an EGM2 magazine I borrowed (and subsequently, non returned), where those Usa-based importers were peddling Last Fantasy 7 figures for nearly 49 bucks (I recollect, and Sephiroth was sold at 79!) a pop. I didn't know what scale they are, whether they are clear, simply I wanted them anyway. Specially Cloud. And Tifa. And maybe some Vincent and Yuffie on the side…and a Sephiroth won't hurt either.

ANYWAY, fast forward viii years or and then, thanks to a game called Dissidia: Final Fantasy, my FF Fanboyism boot-started in one case once more. Square-Enix has commissioned these Concluding Fantasy Play Arts figures nigh a few years back, but I by and large stayed abroad because they were as well expensive. But since today, the American toy companies have been painfully wearisome in releasing new products(and churning out nothing merely three-inch scale ones…no thank you, Gi Joe and Star Wars is enough), there was no excuse not to pick them upwardly. Non even the price. When y'all realize a single FF figure is equivalent to 4 small Star Wars figures, and that's nearly the price of some Curiosity Legends sold in the hobby shops (I'thou looking at you, DEADPOOL!), I thought it wouldn't injure to buy at least Cloud.

I ended up buying three. Whoops.

For now, I'1000 going to review Deject, and the residual (hopefully) later on. As far equally I know, there are four different Play Arts Clouds- the Advent Children version, the Gameplay Version (this one), the Shinra Baby-sit version, and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts version. The guy's going places, that's for sure. Additionally, the Gameplay Version has 2 different releases: the #0 release, which is this effigy plus the Shinra Hardy-Daytona wheel, fabricated famous in the bicycle chase scene in the game (which was aped by the Movie, apparently), all packaged in an actress-large box, and the #1 release, which is the effigy all by its lonesome, packaged in the standard effigy box. I was going to buy the #0 version, just I realized information technology would take all my paycheck to do so, even when discounted. While the cycle is absurd and all, I *can* probably live without it, so I went for the figure alone.

For starters, Play Arts collectors can expect the usual features of the line with this figure.
Articulation wise, he has 22 (or then the box says), and around 5 joints on his arms alone. While Marvel Legends and DC Universe fans will balk at the lower joint count, Deject is yet well-poseable.

The original plan was Clouds hair was to black and slicked back, without any of the crazy spikes. God Forbid!

The original plan was Cloud'due south hair was to be black and slicked back, without any of the crazy spikes. God Prevent!

In terms of sculpt and construction, he looks a bit lanky. Seriously. If you are used to the Advent Children look of the first Cloud, this'll be a bit unlike, the sculptors based this on Tetsuya Nomura's character illustrations, downwards to the recognizable way the eyes were painted on. They expect cartoony, different the more mature look of the before releases. The uniform's sculpt is detailed (look at the awesome shoulder pauldron! You lot can see the threads of the screws!), although overall, there'south not much to see considering the SOLDIER compatible is quite simple in terms of pattern.

Size DOES matter

Size DOES matter

Accompaniment-wise, he comes with his trademark Buster Sword, interchangeable hands, and a waist-hugging, adjustable superlative figure stand. The Buster Sword is freakin' huge, equally it's supposed to be, yet it's very lite, since it's very thin. It'south patterned on the quondam design of the weapon (not the updated Appearance Children/Crisis Core pattern), which was just a simple sword with no embellishments on the blade. Simply that doesn't mean the sword is without detail, though, the surface is marred by huge patches of worn-out areas and surface cracks. Why?

*START SPOILER Alert*
Since Cloud is the third possessor of the Buster Sword, after Angeal and Zack, it made sense that it'll exist worn out. Plus he dragged that sword all over fifty-fifty before Final Fantasy VII, thinking that Zack's life was his. Then kudos to the sculptors for paying attention to that.
*END SPOILER Alarm*

You know you had it made if you had a glove for every purpose

You know you lot had information technology made if you had a glove for every purpose

And because of the sword, Cloud also receives additional parts. He has another right hand, and a small-scale grayness peg. Dissimilar most characters, who have a pair of open and fisted easily, Cloud has an extra hand depicted in a gripping position, so he can grasp the Buster Sword properly. The slightly looser grip mitt can be used to depict him grabbing the sword from his back. But, how exactly exercise you attach the sword to his back? There are no pegs to exist constitute! That'southward what the extra grayness peg is for.

Thats what happens when you drink your milk kids- you can haul a big-ass sword on your back like its nothing

That's what happens when you beverage your milk, kids- you can haul a large-ass sword on your dorsum like it's nothing

The pocket-size grayness buckle found at the back, which sculptwise, is property together Deject's brown harness, is actually removable. Simply plug in the peg in its place, and affix the sword using i of the holes on the surface of the blade.

Theres no way youre gonna make me use THAT

At that place's no manner yous're gonna make me use THAT

The concluding standard accessory is the base. And Jesus H. Christ! Now this what you call a base of operations! It'south composed of three parts- the metal prune, the plastic oblong tube holding the prune, and the base itself. Plug the three parts together, and so adjust the height of the waist prune by moving it up and down the tube. The pocket-size notches inside agree the prune steady. Theoretically, yous can concord the figures aloft for jumping scenes with this, but I wouldn't advise information technology. And since the clip is metal, to protect it from damaging the figure, rubber endcaps are found on the tips of the prongs to preclude them from sinking into the plastic. Just despite all these handy-groovy features, using the base is completely optional. Cloud has really big boots and his baggy pants are actually lending weight to his lower half of the body, so he tin stand up steadily without information technology.

Purchase or let it die? We're talking near Cloud Strife here, one of the best known RPG protagonists in the history of the Playstation! In his iconic SOLDIER uniform, none the less! If you lot like the Tetsuya Nomura aesthetics and the classic look, pick this, or the Hardy-Daytona set.

….hmm.

DAMN Information technology! I want a loose Hardy-Daytona!!!
